Summer Manufacturing Camp Builds Interest in Manufacturing CareersOur series on the future generation of manufacturing employees continues with a highlight on something everyone loves—summer camp! The Port of Morrow and its partners in Eastern Oregon have brought a national summer camp program to the region. Now in its 2nd year in Eastern Oregon, the Nuts, Bolts, and Thingamajigs Manufacturing Camp supports individuals in discovering their interest in manufacturing and to encourage the pursuit of a manufacturing career. The Nuts, Bolts, and Thingamajigs camp is sponsored by a grant from The Foundation of the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, Intl., and by Blue Mountain Community College, Port of Morrow, Boardman Foods, Inc., AWS, Oregon State University, GO-STEM, Lamb Weston, Oregon Pump Works, and the SAGE Center. Food processors in Eastern Oregon support this program by offering industry tours and guest speakers to talk with summer camp attendees. 12 to 16 year old students attend the camp to help them decide what career to pursue. What’s more, students can apply for up to $3500 in scholarships they can use towards degrees that will lead to manufacturing careers. Want to get involved? Contact Kalie Davis to learn how you can make an impact in building the next generation of the manufacturing workforce! Be sure to check out this video to see the summer camp in action. |
