Another Manufacturing Day in the books!
Although manufacturing Month lasts all year, many Manufacturing Day events take place on the official MFG Day, October 5, 2018. Over 2,700 events were celebrated nationally, with many more scheduled throughout the year. Get all the details here
2018 Oregon Manufacturing Day Highlights
OMIC
Through the laughter, the wealth of knowledge being shared, and the hands-on engaging displays a large group of nearly 300 students from the surrounding Scappoose area got to spend a few hours of their day maneuvering through the OMIC R&D facility on National Manufacturing Day.
With a wide range of knowledge on all that the manufacturing field encompasses, students learned from talented industry professionals about how this ever-changing industry could be a potential career field for them in the future.

Makers Gone Pro
On Thursday evening, October 4th, students from the Center for Advanced Learning (CAL) and other organizations celebrated Manufacturing Day with a large career fair style event. Speakers in this 5th year of the event included Tibi Iovu, Senior Manager of the Adidas America Maker Lab.
Through fun and engaging hands-on activities, this event provided students and community members an opportunity to understand and learn about the world of making things, and how these activities relate to the Portland region’s robust manufacturing sector. Activities included a flight simulator, robotics, 3d printers, rocket launchers, CNC machining and more! This initiative was part of a regional MFG Day coordinating effort that includes Workforce Investment Boards, Community Colleges and the School-to-Work Consortium.
Lam Research Kick Off
Lam Research opened their doors to students from neighboring high schools and colleges for an inside look at advanced manufacturing. Since 2014, Lam has participated in National Manufacturing Day, promoting manufacturing careers to science and engineering graduates who will enable the next wave of production. Lane County
Lane County organizations teamed up in a big way to host many manufacturing day events that were wildly successful. These tours were provided by a collaboration of Eugene and Springfield Chambers of Commerce, OMEP, Lane ESD, 4J, Lane Workforce Board, Elevate Lane County, local businesses and community leaders, city officials, city staff, and regional economic development agencies. They have all come together to provide students with an opportunity to see the people, processes. and products produced by our local manufacturers.

Redmond MADE
Redmond Oregon was home to the 6th annual Made In Redmond Tour, where students toured several local manufacturers. Read more here
Portland Area
There were many more events held throughout the Portland Metro area, including some at CAIS, Therma Fischer Scientific, Bob’s Red Mill, Chemeketa Community College, and many more. OMEP is proud to be part of the Oregon network of organizations, manufacturers and makers, bringing these exciting careers to the next generation!
